William “Billy” Frist is principal and general partner of Champion & Co. Inc., a Nashville-based investment firm. Prior to Champion, he was principal of Frist Capital LLC, a private family investment vehicle, from 2003 to 2023. Frist Capital invests in equities, real estate, and venture capital.
Billy is a director of HCA Healthcare (historically known as Hospital Corporation of America). HCA is one of the nation’s largest operators of health care facilities, operating more than 185 hospitals and 2,400 additional sites of care including surgery centers, freestanding ERs, urgent care centers, and physician clinics located in 20 U.S. states and in the United Kingdom. HCA was founded in 1968 by Billy’s grandfather, Dr. Thomas Frist, Sr.; father, Dr. Thomas Frist, MD ’65, GR ’17; and venture capitalist and entrepreneur Jack Massey (owner of Kentucky Fried Chicken). He also serves on the board of directors of the Frist Foundation, and is chair and president of the Board of Trustees of the Frist Art Museum in Nashville.
Billy is a current WashU parent and member of WashU’s Parents Council. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from Princeton University and his Master of Business Administration from Harvard University.
